EmployerI manage the KVM/libvirt hypervisors that host DigitalOcean Droplets, across a fleet of 10,000+ bare metal servers in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia, including GPU bare metal servers.
- Major incident handler: I open the incident and report, page teams through PagerDuty, run the Slack and Google Meet bridges, and escalate to management and leadership.
- Troubleshoot and recover server crashes as part of the on-call rotation.
- Manage a Kubernetes cluster running on bare metal servers.
- Triage escalations from Customer Support to the right engineering team.
- Write Bash and Python scripts to reduce toil, and onboard and train new teammates.
🤝 GitOps and cloud platform for Drupal on GKE
EmployerCloud engineering for the WebOps internal developer platform, delivering highly available Drupal sites. YellowPencil was acquired by Northern Commerce Inc. in 10/2023 and I stayed on the same team.
- Chose and introduced ArgoCD for Drupal deployments on GKE. Pull-based reconciliation replaced a Jenkins push pipeline, so Jenkins was retired, deploys got faster and troubleshooting got easier.
- Moved all Dell servers in the Edmonton datacenter to GCP, replacing datacenter rent with pay-as-you-go.
- Government of Alberta website cluster: designed the Docker image used by Kubernetes and set up ingress controllers, persistent storage and ReplicaSets.
- Ran Istio service mesh on production clusters and Loki for logging.
- Wrote cloud security policies that passed compliance audits.
🤝 CI/CD and infrastructure for a mortgage platform
ContractContract role building CI/CD and infrastructure for the main website, which runs on the Yii framework.
- Built CI/CD with Docker, GitHub Actions and DigitalOcean.
- Worked with cross-functional teams on disaster recovery protocols.
- Wrote security policies for regulated mortgage data.
